Karstaedt & Stanko Attorneys at Law
Committed to Businesses, Nonprofits, and You

About

Passion. Experience. Diligence.

History

Firm co-founder Brandon Stanko was raised in a family of entrepreneurs whose livelihood depended upon the success or failure of their family businesses. As an adult, he noticed that similar small to medium-sized businesses and startups, both for profit and not-for-profit, often look for a lawyer only after issues arise. Waiting until that happens can jeopardize a business' ability to continue operating and have a substantial impact on the livelihoods of the owners.

Kelly Karstaedt

Kelly Karstaedt is a founding shareholder in the firm. Her priority is building solid and lasting relationships with clients. Kelly’s work with the firm focuses on the business as well as the legal needs of the clients, which can include:

  • marketing advice within the legal restrictions of a particular profession;

  • networking strategies to capture target clientele;

  • contract review and analysis; and

  • providing strategic help to maximize success while maintaining legal compliance.

Kelly spent five years practicing as a commercial litigator handling many kinds of contract actions. The ability to analyze and deconstruct a contract has provided her with the knowledge of some common pitfalls that could be avoided, with the help of a good lawyer of course. Her time spent as a litigator was an extremely valuable opportunity that opened many doors at the time. But, the fast-paced, adversarial nature of the job no longer captured her interest or the lifestyle she envisioned for her family. Kelly has always been steadfast in the belief that if you are not happy doing what you are doing, quit and do something else…so she did.

Kelly has years of experience networking to bring in firm clients as well as handling marketing and development needs for multiple non-profit charities and professional associations. It is that passion for bringing people with similar needs together to create beneficial relationships that drove the creation of this firm.

A native of the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area and graduate of Gannon University, Kelly moved to Florida to attend Florida Coastal School of Law, from which she graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in 2008. During law school, she married her college boyfriend who just happens to be the Stanko in Karstaedt & Stanko. As long-term partners in life and study buddies in college and law school, being partners in business seemed like a natural next step.

Kelly is an avid reader, audio-book listener more accurately, and a life-long proponent of animal welfare. Her two cats, Medea and Dionysus, and her border collie Orion have been a sustaining source of inspiration and motivation to keep moving forward. Check out Orion’s profile to see more about his contributions to the firm.

Orion - Firm Mascot

Orion has been with the firm since its inception and is a constant source of inspiration, recreation and entertainment. Orion, a rescue puppy from Nassau County Animal Services, was adopted by the firm owners at the ripe old age of 4 months. Now at 5 years old, he is a valuable contributing member of the firm.

As firm mascot, Orion provides an essential distraction to the usual mundane activities, when needed of course. His daily duties often include:

  • going for a walk when a clear head is necessary;

  • greeting and entertaining clients;

  • filling staff break times with toy playing; and

  • making everyone smile and remember the simple joys in life.

Orion can often be found sleeping on the floor in the office or casually lounging in a nearby chair. He enjoys any attention he can get, but his real passion is for treats. He is always willing to make himself available to visitors, especially if you have treats in hand.
